Why this initiative was founded
In the vibrant city of Temasek, people from diverse backgrounds came together, celebrating their rich cultural heritage through annual festivals. These events fostered a strong sense of identity and pride, with elders sharing stories, artisans showcasing crafts, and young people participating in traditional dances. However, as modernization took hold, many younger residents began to drift away from their roots, and the city's unique identity started to fade. Recognizing the need to preserve this cultural richness, two young men founded Ikatan, meaning "bond", to empower local organizations to revitalize and promote their heritage.
Ikatan serves as a vital institution dedicated to bridging the gap between tradition and modernity. By offering services in cultural research, strategic planning, and community engagement, Ikatan helps organizations adapt their practices to contemporary life while preserving their unique identities. Through the men's efforts, cultural organizations in Temasek discovered that they could strengthen their community ties, enhance their branding, and foster economic growth—all rooted in a shared commitment to cultural preservation. Ikatan’s existence underscores the importance of culture as a source of resilience and opportunity for future generations.
